EU Growth Strategy 2020
Europe 2020 is the European Union’s ten-year growth strategy. It is about more than just overcoming the crisis which continues to afflict many of our economies. It is about addressing the shortcomings of our growth model. Europe 2020 has five ambitious objectives:
- Employment
- Innovation
- Education
- Social inclusion and poverty reduction
- Climate/energy
The crisis exposed fundamental problems and unsustainable trends in many European countries. It also made clear just how interdependent the EU’s economies are. Greater economic policy coordination across the EU will help us to address these problems and boost growth and job creation in future. To ensure that the Europe 2020 strategy delivers, a strong and effective system of economic governance has been set up to coordinate policy actions between the EU and national levels, including:
- A reinforced economic agenda with closer EU surveillance
- Action to safeguard the stability of the euro area and economic
imbalances - Action to repair the financial sector
